I used to try to explain to people what I did for a living in great detail, but quickly learned that it probably wasn’t worth it. Search engine optimization is tricky enough for the people that are in the business. I’ve basically decided that trying to explain to a non techie person what it was, was like trying to teach a kangaroo how to drive a car with a clutch. My biggest problem though, is that I enjoy my work so much that I can’t help but talk about it. Recently, for instance my brothers were in town for a visit. Something we hadn’t done for a while, and I and one of my other brothers are both running our own businesses.
Me in SEO world and him in the real world in the form of a traditional restaurant business. He doesn’t have much of a web presence. Really just a FaceBook page that helps him stays in touch with customers. Well, I of course start rattling on about the benefits of owning your own domain name and website. About how he could starting taking a look at targeting certain keywords, and building content to match those keywords and having different link building strategies and the potential for bringing new customers to his restaurant. Of course, all this conversation was going on over a few drinks, and I just assumed he had forgotten about it. Well, actually he didn’t. Now it looks like I will be taking a newbie down the road of building up a website from scratch, and making sure of course that it gets lots of search engine traffic.
If your shopping for a netbook or just researching one, then you have heard that the processor is important. The central processing unit, or the processor, is simply a computer chip, but it is not any old computer chip. It is the engine behind the computer. A good laptop will come with an Intel core 2 Duo processor. Most PCs will come with the same processor, if this tells you anything about the strength of them. It has been known for a while that a laptop is comparable to a desktop and this is why. These are substantially different from the processors inside of a netbook, though. [...]

In the continuing progress of technology across the world, we have become witnesses to drastic changes in both the internal and external characteristics of technologies available to the public. Let’s take computers, for example: from the mainframes that are as big as houses in the early part of the 20th century, we have seen how it has been reduced in size to the portable notebook computers that we have now. It is remarkable to think that not only the computers are getting smaller; even its accessories are. [...]

Many times when entrepreneurs start a business, they try very hard to keep costs low while generating revenue as quickly as possible. In doing so, they often are very willing to work long hours to get their business off the ground and running. One area that is easy to scrimp on, is software technology. When your business is small and doesn’t have a lot of cash flow, it may make sense to keep track of everything in a spreadsheet or Word document. Given the current power and accessibility of modern PCs and the software that runs on them, it may seem like an obvious choice to make. And, I would agree that it is a good one. But, if your business continues to grow, then that decision will need to change.
When we get used to a manual way of doing things, it can become difficult to make a change. But, what we often lose sight of is how much time were wasting my doing things manually. When we first start out for example, and are perhaps only processing a few orders a week, then the time we spend administering those orders is insignificant. But as business grows and our time is becoming scarce, than a good order management system can be a lifesaver. The trick is knowing when that is happening, and when to make the switch.
As our global village gets smaller and smaller, one of the last great hurdles to cross, is that of multi-language communication. All you Star Trek geeks out there know what a universal translator is, and believe it or not, were not quite so far away from such a reality. It’s just a question of blending a few cool technologies that we already have. For those of you who don’t know what a universal translator is, it’s basically a little electronic device that allows Captain Kirk and all his peeps to communicate with all the aliens they meet on different planets audibly. Basically, you say something in English, and the non-english speaking aliens hear it in their own language and vice versa.
We already have translation software out there that works with the written word in a wide array of digital applications. While it hasn’t gained wide spread use, there is also speech recognition software out there that will transcribe words spoken into a microphone into a text document on your computer. I think it’s pretty obvious where this is going. By simply bridging the two technologies of speech recognition and language translation, you would have a universal translator. How simple that would be is of course open for discussion. But there are organizations that are working towards that end. Google, the US Army, and an Android app developer are just a few.
Some of the people who are always on the go are students, businessmen, writers and publishers. There is no knowing when they will need their laptops and printers, so it is best that they travel with their gadgets. The laptop, which is made for outdoor use with its travel-friendly weight, can be carried around easily. But when the printer comes to mind, people are wondering how the standard sized machine can fit in your luggage. [...]
