25 Aug 10 Is Smaller More Efficient?

In the continuing progress of technology across the world, we have become witnesses to drastic changes in both the internal and external characteristics of technologies available to the public. Let’s take computers, for example: from the mainframes that are as big as houses in the early part of the 20th century, we have seen how it has been reduced in size to the portable notebook computers that we have now. It is remarkable to think that not only the computers are getting smaller; even its accessories are.

Among many laptop accessories, the printer is optional but has the most functionality. Right now, small printers are making its way into the market and are being characterized as an accessory need. However, the issue of efficiency still lies there. Is smaller really better?

A travel printer is only advisable to those who are constantly on the move.Let’s compare the two central features of a typical printer to that of a smaller one:

Portability. Most professionals are travelling to and fro places. Usually, they are the ones who have little or no time to sit on their office desks and prepare their speech. Printers that are small in size—but can print out a quality material like that of a typical printer—is what they need. A typical printer lack this characteristic, as it need to be plugged into an electric socket to start operation. Portable printers operate on battery.

Functionality. They say that bigger machines can do more jobs. It may be true, yes: our home computers can assume the role of a fax machine and even a scanner or copier. With a touch of a button, our home printers can carry out several responsibilities that cannot be met by new small printers. However, it is remarkable that travel-type printers only carry out one primary function, and that is to print.
