First, lets look at what it means to be refurbished. Essentially, someone purchased a computer, in this case a laptop, and once they got it out of the box, booted it up, they found out that something was not working properly. If the help desk technician can not determine what the problem is then the next thing to do is have the laptop shipped back to the manufacturer and the buy gets a brand new one in return.

Once the manufacturer receives the defective laptop it is run through a series of checks in order to determine what is exactly causing the problem. Upon discovering the problem, the defective part is replaced with a brand new part where it then goes through some more checks to ensure that the problem is indeed fixed.

At this time the manufacturer can not sell the laptop as new since it technically is not but they also do not want to keep it in their inventory either. So, what they do is sell these practically brand new laptops under the classification of refurbished.

The good thing is that most major manufacturers including the likes of Dell, HP and even Apple have an area of their website where you can find refurbished laptops. On top of that, the prices of these models are considerably cheaper than their new counterparts which also means that you can in effect buy a new computer for a used computer price. Now that is a good deal.
